There’s a special poem, called the Rainbow Bridge, written by an unknown author. It’s dedicated to lost pets, and gives hope that this is where you will reunite with them again. It’s a beautiful story, and if you’d like to read it click here: http://www.soulfulanimal.com/rainbow-bridge-poem-for-pet-loss/
High Four offers a special package for pets who are ill, or near the end of their days called the Rainbow Session. It’s basically the “PreFURred” package, but with a few extras. I do this because so many times I hear people say, “I wish I had gotten good pictures of my pet, but now it’s too late”. These words break my heart. As I’ve said before, it’s the reason I do this. I think everyone needs good photos of their pets at least once. I aim to get photos of who they are, showing their personality – not just a pose on a pedestal. I have two pups, and I still don’t feel like I have enough pictures to remember them with, however I’m sure my husband would disagree! I’m a photographer, there’s never enough!
Last fall, I did my first Rainbow Session. In the days before coming up to the shoot I was getting nervous. Just thinking about the fact that someone knows they will be losing their pet brought tears to my eye, and I hadn’t even met him yet. I even told my husband that I didn’t know if I could do it. But I did. Of course I did. Then I met sweet Rexy. He was a beautiful Golden Retriever. What a sweetheart. He greeted me like I was an old friend, showed me around his yard, his toys, and his little sister Bailey. But he was sick, and had a limp, and couldn’t see very well but you wouldn’t know it. He seemed so happy and full of life. It was hard to believe that fate was taking him so soon.
The family lost Rexy in early August. You could feel the heartbreak through the message I received when it happened. I fear the next rainbow session I have, but I welcome it at the same time. It’s so easy to become attached to these furry creatures who fill our lives with such joy, even if for a brief part of our lives. This is my favorite picture of Rexy and his mom. It brought tears to my eye the moment I saw it. I try to get this photo with every shoot I do, but especially the rainbow sessions.
Whether your pet is sick, or healthy as ever, I strongly recommend you to get photos done. Check out my testimonials page for actual reactions and nice words from previous customers. It’s totally worth it! You’ll treasure them for the rest of your life. They really are a family member. Not just a pet. Think of it as a once in their lifetime investment. Or, you know….twice if you want ;)
